CHARITY ART AUCTION TO BENEFIT
THE RESOURCE CENTER

During the entire Chautauqua Suites Art Exhibition, a silent auction will be held at the Expo Center, with items donated by the exhibiting artists.  The proceeds from these funds will go to benefit the art program at The Resource Center

The mission of The Resource Center is to support individuals with disabilities and other challenges in achieving maximum independence, contributing to their community, experiencing lifelong growth, and enjoying quality of life.

Because art touches every area of life and can be instrumental in a person’s development at any age, TRC Day Services were compelled to offer art on a personal and long-term basis. Through collaboration with community programming and area artists, the art program developed into what it is today.

Area artist Kristen Briggs has spent the last year teaching art concepts to individuals with disabilities at TRC.  She has coordinated exhibits both on the regional and statewide level with aspirations of going national in the near future.  Art exhibits have been displayed inside TRC Day Habilitation locations as well as at venues such as the Prendergast Library and The House on the Hill restaurant.

With great support and response from participating artists, family, friends, and the community, the program is now taking off to reach new heights. Classes have grown from realizing the basics of art to the level of holding independent classes to show the artists’ accomplishments through choosing their form of medium and showcasing in personal portfolios and exhibits.

It is hard to measure the effect the program has had on the individuals who have been touched by working with different mediums and experiencing all that the art program brings to their lives, but the artists’ sense of self-worth has risen to a level beyond imagination.

Now that we have touched the hearts and minds of those who have been involved in the art program, both program participants and community members, we have high hopes of what the future holds.  The possibilities are endless.

By presenting their artwork and sharing it with others, the artists intend to bridge the gap that has always been a silent part of their lives; being viewed as someone with a disability instead of someone with worth and value as a whole and complete member of their community.
